We just got back from our anniversary trip at the Outer Banks, NC. Much sleep, reading, watching, and generally relaxing. The weather was ok. It definately wasn't ideal beach weather, but then again, I'm not an ideal beach person. After spending a week away from everything it's good to get back into the swing of things. We got down there Saturday evening, March 21. It was pretty cold out and the heat pump in our condo wasn't putting out. Bad news. The maintence crew weren't able to fix it for us but kindly brought a couple of space heaters for our comfort. Sunday was spent walking the beach and getting aquainted with the area. It was a beautiful day, and I took the opportunity to fly my kite on the beach. We went out in the evening to grab a bite to eat. Monday did absolutely nothing. I haven't had such a wonderfully lazy day in a long time, but it was great fun. Mostly we stayed indoors because it was kind of dreary outside We eventually went out in the evening to eat. Tuesday I made a trip to Kitty Hawk to visit the Wright Brothers memorial. It was an absolutely gorgeous day again, although quite chilly. One interesting note: due to wind, the hill off of which the Wright Brothers conducted flight operations moved 450 feet to the south between 1901 and 1930 when they finally established it as a memorial. They seeded it with grass to keep it from further erosion. Wednesday and Thursday were a bit rainy and unpredictable - and cold. We did some mini golf when the weather permitted, went shopping, ate, and went bowling in the evening. I had to restrain myself from buying some really cool kites. Too expensive. I love kites. Friday was our anniversary day. We got up around 9:00, which was shockingly early by this week's standards, and hit the road around 10:00. Our goal was to meander our way down the outer banks and visit the various historic lighthouses along the way. 4.5 hours and one ferry ride later we reached Okracoke Island to visit the lighthouse on its southern tip. We ate lunch and headed back. Saturday we checked out of our condo and headed for home to finally see our son, whom we had packed off to Grandma's house. What a shocker, he wanted nothing to do with us. I guess we learned our lesson for leaving him behind. We've since made amends and he remembers how cool his daddy is. |
